Christmas Kittens! YAY! A beautiful Black female had been hanging around a home in Waterloo, and she had been eating at the feeding station for a few weeks. She appeared to be friendly but stayed a short distance away. On 8/30/18, the home owner found her in the dog house by their garage - with a litter of kittens! The gal was going to leave her alone, but when she started to leave, the mama came bolting out of the dog house as if to communicate ... Don't leave me! So she sat down with her and petted her a bit and when she got up to leave, the mama followed her! So she decided to gather up all 5 of the kittens (the weather was rather nasty), and she placed mama and babies in a large container on her enclosed back patio porch to keep them out of the rain and with a soft blanket. Mama seemed thankful for the bed, food, water and litter box, too! The next morning, she was surprised to see another kitten had been born, and sadly, it did not make it, but the babies and mama - whom she named Jasmine - all seemed to be doing great. A few days days later, Last Hope Animal Rescue took in an orphaned kitten who was found in a warehouse; she was extremely dehydrated and crying for her mama - who was no where to be found - and they were pretty sure she had gone without food or water for a day or so! LHAR put out a request for a nursing mama to take this tiny baby, and thankfully a friend-of-a-friend-of a friend of a LHAR foster mom let us know about Jasmine! We rushed the tiny orphan over to her and Jasmine took to the kitten like it was her own baby! She immediately started licking it and letting it nurse! Hallelujah! And you know what...? The kitten looked about the exact same size and age of her own babies - and her fur color looked like she was one of Jasmine's own babies! :) As the kittens grew and the weather became colder, one of the LHAR foster families took this feline family into their care to get them off the enclosed patio. They were growing and getting into mischief, and we discovered there were 2 boys and 3 original females, plus the 'adopted' orphan kitten - for a total of 4 girls and 2 boys! Since Jasmine is the name of a Disney character from 'Aladdin', all of the kittens were named after Disney characters, too... the boys were named Aladdin and Abu , and the girls were named after various other Disney females... Ariel, Dory, Leila and Maleficent! It is always best to adopt kittens in PAIRS, if you have room in your heart, your home and your budget! 'Until there are none, please adopt one; So they aren't blue, why not adopt two?" Leila is a darling little girl... the smallest of the kittens, she is little, but mighty! She is a Brown Tabby domestic shorthair; she is sweet, loving, very playful, full of mischief, and as been raised with other kitties, a DOG, and 10 & 12 yr. old kids! KID TESTED - MOTHER APPROVED! They are scheduled to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and Microchipped on 12/5/18 at the Iowa Humane Alliance; they will be nearly 14 weeks at that time because of the huge number of animals being taken to this amazing low cost/ high quality spay & neuter clinic in Cedar Rapids. But as of now they have already had 3 FVRCP vaccinations, and have been dewormed and treated for internal and external parasites. Mama Jasmine tested negative for both Feline Leukemia and FIV, so they should be too, but LHAR will test each kitten individually to make sure they don't have FeLV. They will be given their rabies vaccination and microchipped - which we will register for you for free and it comes with a LIFETIME free registration as well! Barring anything unforeseen, they will be available for adoption on 12/10/18. Their adoption fee(s) of $100 is an INCREDIBLE BARGAIN for all they have had done - BUT, adopt a pair of kittens, and we''ll sweeten the deal and give you a discount of $25.00 for adopting a pair! These sweeties are being fostered in Waterloo, IA. Apply for them online through the Last Hope Animal website at www.adopthope.org. A home visit is part of the adoption process.
