Last Hope Animal Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Formed in March of 2004, we are an all volunteer animal rescue group comprised of foster homes in the greater Cedar Rapids and Iowa City areas and a shelter outside of Shellsburg. Most of our animals come from local kill shelters, as their time has run out due to any number of reasons including lack of space, not deemed adoptable, special needs, etc. Our purpose is to save as many homeless, abused, abandoned, hard to place, neglected animals that we can and then place as many animals as possible into loving, forever homes where they will be cherished.

When the animals come into our organization, in addition to being fully vetted, they are also temperament tested so that we know what kind of home they will require. To ensure that our animals get the healthy, happy life they deserve, we thoroughly screen all applicants by checking references and visiting the potential adopter’s home. We want to make sure that both the animal and the potential adopter are a good fit for each other. We have a return rate of less than 2% and we feel our adoption process allows us to achieve those results.
